In loving memory of Overseer Geraldine James

Overseer Geraldine James

Pastor Geraldine James was married to the late Elder George W. James for 54 years until his passing in September, 2007.  Out of this union they had 4 children all of which are saved and/or yokefellows co-laboring in Christ’s vineyard; one daughter, Thelma having already gone on to be with the Lord.

A true daughter of Zion, Pastor James has come up through the ranks faithfully serving in her father’s ministry, the late Bishop William S. Barnes, Sr. after whom her own ministry is named.  She has functioned in almost every facet of ministry, serving in various capacities throughout and as necessary.  Some of her roles has included:  Sunday School teacher, Kitchen Committee member, President of the Senior Choir, Pastor’s Aide member, Church Anniversary Committee member, teacher of the Purity Club, licensed Evangelist and the list goes on.

Her work has included traveling around the United States and the world preaching and teaching the Gospel, with a special interest and attraction for the Youth, and a pure love for all of the Body of Christ.  Having come of age and devoting her life to the furtherance of the Kingdom, Pastor James has conceived, birthed, nurtured and released many sons and daughters into the Vineyard of Christ.  The testimonies of strengthened families, healed hearts, souls converted and restored do abound!

Since July 1989, Pastor James has served as the founding pastor of the William Samuel Barnes, Sr. Memorial Apostolic Faith Church, located in the Coldstream-Montebello area of Baltimore, MD.

In October of 1990, through great vision, faith in God and Divine favor, Pastor James was able to acquire a lovely homestead and place of worship “second to none”; a beautiful edifice, with seating capacity in excess of 500…a miraculous fete within itself.  However, the focus of her concern for the Ministry extends beyond the walls of the Barnes Memorial Church and it’s numerous ministries.  Faithful in her stewardship, she has clothed the naked, fed the hungry, and even housed several displaced congregations through the years.  She also has served as Overseer of the Mid-Atlantic Dioceses for both the True Churches of Our Lord Jesus Christ, under the leadership of Bishop William A. Thomas, Sr., as well as presently, the Victorious Apostolic Churches, Inc. under the leadership of Bishop Raymond Berger.

Pastor James is known for the wisdom of her counsel, as well as her loyalty in friendship, and dependability in need.     Loved by many who know her or come to meet her acquaintance, Pastor James’s humility of mind and integrity of spirit makes her a celebrated jewel in the Kingdom community.  She is definitely “one of a kind” setting a precedent for all women in Ministry !
